What the True North Casino Index is
The True North Casino Index is a scored ranking of online casinos that are licensed to operate in Canada's regulated markets. It is published in monthly editions. Every operator on the index has been checked against the official registries: the iGaming Ontario operator directory for Ontario, and the AGLC registrant list for Alberta. If an operator is not on a regulator's list, it is not on our index, regardless of any commercial relationship.
How the score is built
Each operator receives one score out of 10, built from five components, weighted the way players weigh them:
- Payouts & banking (heaviest weight): withdrawal windows, Interac support both ways, banking friction.
- Trust & licensing: registry verification, operating-entity transparency, parent track record, regulator penalties, and complaint patterns from public sources.
- Games & providers: catalogue depth, provider lineup, live casino.
- Mobile experience: apps and mobile-web quality.
- Support: channels, hours, and how it behaves when a withdrawal sticks.
Payout and banking facts are currently research-verified: compiled from operator disclosures and multiple independent public sources, then cross-checked. Where sources conflict, we publish the conservative figure and record the discrepancy. A first-hand payout testing programme is in progress; as tested data lands, the relevant figures will be re-labelled tested and the scores re-weighted. We never describe researched data as tested.
Provisional listings
Newly indexed operators enter the index as provisional listings, capped at an index score of 8.3 until they have been through a full verification cycle (registry re-checks, banking fact cross-verification, complaint-history review). This is why several large, well-known brands currently sit below smaller operators that have completed full verification. Provisional status is shown on every listing where it applies.
What we never do
- We never rank by commercial terms. Rankings come from the scoring framework only.
- We never publish inducement or sign-up-offer content. Canadian advertising standards prohibit it, and it is not what this platform is for.
- We never list an operator that is not licensed in at least one regulated Canadian market.
- We never silently change facts. Material corrections are logged on the corrections page.
Complaint-pattern monitoring
Scores also respond to what players collectively report. Each edition we review Canadian player discussions on public forums for recurring patterns: withdrawal delays, verification loops, offer-term traps, support failures. A single complaint never moves a score; a consistent pattern does, the change is logged on the corrections page, and the pattern is described in plain terms in the review's "What players report" section. Thin complaint data is reported as exactly that: a mild positive with low certainty, never proof.
Update cadence
The index is re-issued monthly. Licensing status is re-checked against the iGO and AGLC registries weekly; if an operator is delisted by a regulator, its listing is flagged and its referral links are removed within one business day.
